A dissected silcrete tableland and mesas, and extensive gibber-covered footslopes on deeply weathered shales. There is a cover of chenopod shrubs and forbs with small areas of low woodland used for extensive livestock grazing. Small-scale opal mining occurs near Coober Pedy.
