Messent (Environmental Association 2.2.1)

location map showing Messent (Environmental Association 2.2.1)

An extensive calcarenite dune complex overlain with sand dunes. Many of the interdunal depressions are filled with water. Clearing for pasture has not been as widespread and intensive in this association as elsewhere, and consequently there are considerable areas of mallee, heath and swamp vegetation remaining. A substantial area is reserved for conservation and the rest is used for grazing.

The calcarenite dunes provide views over mallee, heath and pasture. From the plains there are perspective views with swamps and blocks of woodland or heath locally dominating features. In the north, the adjacent Coorong association (2.1.5) is a feature.
